A reluctant celebrity designer Pierre Paulin found refuge from Parisian high-life in The Cévennes, an area of wild beauty in southern France. There he modelled a secluded domestic idyll from native rock which was to become a domestic foil for his iconic stretchy colour-popping furniture with rudimentary names such Mushroom, Tongue, Ribbon chairs. The rustic vernacular-styled interior was a natural home-coming for his own sinuous aesthetic if you like.
La Maison Rouge is celebrating his life with his wife and design partner Maïa in a retrospective 4 April - 21 July 2019.
